ECI Organisation Committee

Any EU citizens (citizens of the member states) who have reached the age, which entitles them to participate in the elections to the European Parliament (i.e. 18 years, except for Austria where this age limit is 16 years) have the right to become members of the ECI Committee. However, first they must set up a citizens’ committee consisting of at least seven persons who have their permanent places of residence in at least seven different member states.

The Organisation Committee is responsible for managing the initiative throughout its existence.

A citizens’ initiative cannot be initiated by an organisation. However, an organisation is allowed to promote and support the proposed initiatives, provided that it does so in accordance with the principles of transparency.

Who can become a signatory of the European Citizens’ Initiative?

Any EU citizens (citizens of the member states) who have reached the age, which entitles them to participate in the elections to the European Parliament (i.e. 18 years, except for Austria where this age limit is 16 years).
